Why professional sofa cleaning is worth it

A sofa or mattress is used every day, and it quietly collects dust, skin and hair, spilled drinks, food crumbs and body oils. Vacuuming removes the loose surface layer, but it does not lift stains or reach what sits deeper in the fabric.

Professional upholstery cleaning uses the right method for your fabric, so it can lift dirt and marks without soaking the furniture or damaging the material. That is why we ask about the fabric and the care label before we quote, rather than treating every sofa the same.

Whether you want to refresh the family couch in Mosta, clean a mattress in Sliema before guests arrive, or tidy up the waiting-room seating in a St Julian's office, we plan the clean around what the item is made of and how it is used.

What we clean

Upholstery, mattresses and carpets, quoted per item:

Fabric sofas and couches

Cleaning for 2-seater, 3-seater and corner sofas. We treat everyday dirt and marks, with attention to arms, headrests and seat cushions where wear is heaviest.

Armchairs and dining chairs

Upholstered armchairs, dining chairs and stools. Dining chairs collect food and drink marks, so they are often worth cleaning as a set.

Mattress cleaning

Mattress cleaning for surface marks, spills and general freshening. Tell us the size and what has happened to it, and send a photo.

Carpet cleaning

Carpet cleaning quoted by area and condition. Send us the approximate size, the type of carpet and photos of any problem spots.

Stain treatment

Treatment of food, drink, dirt and pet marks. Results depend on the fabric, the stain and its age, and we give you an honest view from your photos first.

Office and commercial seating

Sofas and seating in offices, waiting rooms and shops, scheduled around your opening hours.

Not sure whether your item can be cleaned? Send a photo and a picture of the care label, and we will tell you before you book.

How much does sofa cleaning cost in Malta?

Sofa, upholstery, mattress and carpet cleaning with Sparkly Malta are quoted per job. We do this on purpose: a small two-seater in good condition and a large corner sofa with set-in stains are very different jobs, and a flat price would be wrong for one of them. Products and equipment are included, VAT in Malta is 18%, and you get a clear quote before we start.

How to read your sofa's care label

Most upholstered furniture has a care label under a seat cushion or on the underside. The code tells you what is safe to use, and it is the first thing we ask about.

Common upholstery care label codes
CodeMeaningWhat it means for cleaning
WWater-based cleaningWater-based cleaning products are generally suitable
SSolvent-based cleaning onlyWater can damage the fabric, so a solvent-based approach is needed
WSWater or solventMore flexible, and either type can usually be used
XVacuum or brush onlyLiquids are not recommended, so tell us before we quote

Send us a photo of your label. If there is no label, tell us the material and when you bought it, and we will advise.

Stain first aid: what to do before we arrive

What you do in the first few minutes makes a big difference to how well a stain can be removed.

1

Blot, do not rub

Press a clean, dry cloth onto the spill to lift liquid. Rubbing pushes it deeper into the fabric.

2

Work from the edge in

Blot from the outside of the stain towards the centre so it does not spread.

3

Skip strong cleaners

Bleach and strong household sprays can leave rings or damage colour. Plain water is a safer first step on washable fabrics.

4

Photograph it and call us

Send a photo with the fabric type, and tell us what caused the stain. Fresh stains are easier to treat.

How often should sofas and mattresses be cleaned?

There is no single rule, but this is a sensible guide:

Suggested cleaning frequency for upholstery, mattresses and carpets
ItemSuggested frequency
Family sofa used dailyOnce or twice a year
Sofa in a home with children or petsEvery few months, or after spills
MattressOnce a year, and after spills or when moving in
Carpet in high-traffic areasOnce or twice a year
Holiday let or office seatingRegularly, depending on use, and between busy periods

This is our rule of thumb, not a fixed rule. A visibly stained or smelly item should be cleaned sooner.

What is different about upholstery in Malta

Local conditions affect how furniture gets dirty and how it should be looked after.

Dust settles indoors

Saharan dust reaches the islands regularly, as GuideMeMalta reported in February 2026, and building work is constant. Fine dust works its way into fabric, so regular vacuuming and an occasional professional clean help.

Strong summer sun

Visit Malta notes around 12 hours of sunshine a day in summer. Sofas near windows can fade, so curtains or blinds help protect fabric.

Drying after winter rain

Malta's wetter months can make indoor drying slower. After any cleaning, open windows or let air circulate so the item dries properly before you use it.

Rented and short-let furniture

With so many rentals and holiday lets across the islands, upholstery, mattresses and carpets often need refreshing between guests or tenants.

Frequently asked questions: sofa, mattress and carpet cleaning in Malta

How much does sofa cleaning cost in Malta?

Sofa, upholstery, mattress and carpet cleaning are quoted per job, because the price depends on the size of the item, the fabric, its condition and how many items you want cleaned. Send us photos and details through WhatsApp or the contact form and we will send a clear quote before we start. Prices exclude 18% VAT.

What do you need to give me a quote?

Your town, what you want cleaned (for example a 3-seater fabric sofa, two armchairs, a double mattress), photos of the item and any stains, and the fabric type or care label if you can see it. The more detail you send, the more accurate the quote.

Can you clean mattresses in Malta?

Yes. Mattress cleaning is available and is quoted per mattress after you send photos and tell us the size. It is a good option for general freshening and for marks on the surface. Tell us about any spills, stains or smells so we know what to treat.

Do you clean carpets and rugs?

Carpet cleaning is available and quoted per job based on the area and condition. Tell us the approximate size and the type of carpet. If you have a rug, mention it and send a photo so we can confirm whether we can clean it.

Can you remove stains from my sofa?

We treat stains such as food, drink, dirt marks and pet accidents. How well a stain lifts depends on the fabric, the type of stain and how long it has been there, so some set-in marks may not come out completely. Send a photo and we will give you an honest view before booking.

What should I do about a stain before you arrive?

Blot fresh stains with a clean, dry cloth and do not rub, because rubbing pushes the stain deeper. Avoid strong household cleaners, which can leave marks or damage the fabric. Leave the rest for us.

How do I know which cleaning method is safe for my sofa?

Look for the care label, usually under a cushion or on the underside. Common codes are W (water-based cleaning), S (solvent only), WS (either) and X (vacuum only). Tell us what the label says, or send a photo of it, and we will confirm the right approach before cleaning.

Do you clean leather or delicate fabrics?

Tell us the material and send a photo of the item and its care label. We will confirm whether we can clean it safely before we book. Delicate materials are checked before any cleaning.

How often should a sofa be professionally cleaned?

As a rule of thumb, once or twice a year for a typical household sofa, and more often for sofas used daily by children or pets. This is general guidance rather than a fixed rule, and a visibly stained or smelly sofa should be cleaned sooner.

How long will my sofa take to dry?

Drying time depends on the fabric, the cleaning method and the weather. Open windows or run air circulation after cleaning, and avoid sitting on damp fabric. We can tell you what to expect once we know the fabric and method.

Do you clean office or commercial furniture?

Yes. We can clean office sofas, waiting-room seating and other commercial upholstery, and plan it around your opening hours. See office cleaning and commercial cleaning for regular upkeep of the premises.

Can you clean my sofa as part of a move-out or deep clean?

Yes, we can quote upholstery, carpet and mattress cleaning together with deep cleaning or move-out cleaning. Deep cleaning is priced from €4.00 per sqm + VAT, with a fixed price after a free photo or video assessment.

Do you clean sofas in Airbnb and holiday lets?

Yes, we can quote upholstery cleaning for holiday lets, alongside our Airbnb cleaning turnover service from €70 + VAT.

Are your products safe for families and pets?

Our products are eco and pet-friendly. If anyone in your home has allergies or sensitivities, tell us when you book and we will take it into account.

Which areas of Malta do you cover?

We cover all of Malta, including Sliema, St Julian's, Valletta, Gzira, Msida, Birkirkara, Mosta, San Gwann, St Paul's Bay, Naxxar, Floriana, Hamrun, Attard, Swieqi, Qormi, Mellieha, Rabat and Mdina. If your town is not listed, contact us and we will confirm.

Is there a guarantee on your work?

Our work is backed by a satisfaction guarantee. If you are not happy with something, tell us and we will put it right.
